Quadra Island Health Society
The last four years have brought myriad changes to life on our little island. Many of those changes have taken their toll on the habits of healthy living of our residents. Many of us are less active, more isolated, or feeling so, often wondering what new changes or challenges each day may bring. These negative changes have reportedly been well documented in the literature across British Columbia, but smaller and more rural populations have been especially hard hit.
As one step towards reversing these trends and trying to help improve the healthy habits of Quadra Islanders, the Quadra Island Health Society together with the Quadra Island Recreation Society and Quadra Circle, applied for and received a grant through the Quadra Foundation from the Covid Recovery Grant Program to build a clearinghouse, a website, through which Quadra Island residents can access information on as many aspects of health as possible.
It is our hope that through this website we can assist, inform and inspire our neighbours along the journey towards healthier living. Helping navigate the new realities and challenges that have resulted, particularly in the world of health care. Reaching out with a message of support and encouragement for residents of Quadra to take those incremental steps towards maintaining or improving their health throughout all the various stages/aspects of their lives.
In addition to connecting our residents to more information and resources in terms of health and wellbeing, we wish to try to increase awareness of all the supports we do have here on Quadra, thanks in large part to the incredibly dedicated people we have living and volunteering here. We are hoping that our website will be a focal point for our community, bringing a sense of connection and a sense of the caring and support that exists within our community for each other’s health and wellbeing.
